Who Are We?

We are a community of nurses that love the nursing profession.

The Mission

Change the nursing culture.

HOW? Support one another from the beginning of our career,

until the end- be kind, teach, and share information.

Our Values

Kindness: to yourself and each other

Responsibility: for your role and development

Connection: promote inclusiveness, we are all here to help each other

“Empower Nurses can increase your confidence and decrease your anxiety.”

Who Am I?

My name is Misty and I have been a nurse for 29 years.  I love the profession and believe if we stood together and supported one another, we could be powerful.  When I started mentoring one of my best friend’s daughters, she asked me if nurses eat their young, it made me sad to answer truthfully.  When I had to teach her about bullying and incivility amongst nurses, it made me cringe.  We expect management to fix the culture or physicians to stop treating nurses poorly- what a difference we could make if we started standing up for one another?  We could change our profession from the inside out- young or old, new or experienced- one nurse at a time.

  • Be kind to one another- if a nurse doesn’t know, teach them.  At one time, you didn’t know either.
  • Take responsibility- for your nursing practice.  You are not a nurse because you work for (fill in the blank).  You are a nurse, because you earned your nursing license.
  • Connect- why is every nurse relieved to see their favorite charge nurse on their shift?  Because you know you will be supported and you are not alone.  Be the best nurse you can be to all nurses you work, with every shift.  What if everyone you worked with, supported you?  What if you knew that your nurse co-worker had your back?
WE could be powerful and witness the change in culture.

I graduated with my BSN from Texas Christian University.  I have been in pediatrics from the beginning (short stint in the ED with adults and that reinforced my love of pediatrics).  I grew up in a pediatric ICU and then became a pediatric- neonatal, transport nurse.  Best role ever!  It was super high stress, but the most fun, interesting, crazy position ever.

I have 3 kids: a son living on his own coaching cheer, a daughter in college out of state getting her BFA in dance, and a Disney loving, preschooler!  I teach yoga twice a week, practice twice a week, and work fulltime as a program manager.  Life is full.
